Undo and keyboard shortcuts

2 min readUpdated 1 October 2026

Every change to your family can be undone, and on iPad and Mac almost everything has a keyboard shortcut.

Steps

  1. Undo from the note

When you delete someone or a memory, or link two people, a note appears at the bottom, such as Deleted Chloe, with an Undo button. It stays for a few seconds.

  2. Undo anything else

Every edit is one step you can undo: adding or deleting a person, a date, a photo, a relationship or a note. Shake your iPhone, or press ⌘Z on a keyboard. Press ⇧⌘Z to redo. On a Mac, the Edit menu names the step, such as Undo Delete Chloe.

  3. Know how far back it goes

The undo history runs back to when you opened the app. It starts fresh when you switch trees, import a file, restore a backup, or quit the app.

Keyboard shortcuts

On a Mac, New Person, Record a Memory and the other commands under Everywhere are in the menu bar too. On iPad, they’re in the list of keyboard shortcuts.

Tips

  • Choosing a different focus person isn’t an edit, so it isn’t in the undo history.
  • Shake to Undo can be turned off in the iOS Settings app, under Accessibility, then Touch.

Still stuck? Email support@familytreesapp.com and a person will reply.
