Short answerA descendant chart starts with one person or couple at the top and branches down to their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It answers “who came from them?” instead of “who did I come from?”. The blank template below has room for three children and their families; Family Trees draws it with the Descendants view.

The template

How to fill it in

  1. Put the founding couple at the top: great-grandparents work well for a reunion.
  2. Each child goes in the second row with a partner beside them.
  3. Grandchildren hang below their parents, then great-grandchildren below them.
  4. Families with more children can use one sheet per child’s branch.

Who it suits

Family reunions, anniversary parties and anyone tracing all the descendants of one ancestor.

In Family Trees, add each person once with a photo and the Descendants view draws this chart for you, with round portraits, and keeps it up to date as relatives fill in their branches.
